The Karlstejn Castle is located about thirty kilometers southwest of Prague and is surrounded by a beautiful forest.
We will take you to discover this residence which was commissioned by Emperor Charles IV in 1348. His intent was to create a safe place to keep the crown jewels, his collection of relics of saints and to deposit the state archives.
The neo-Gothic style (restoration of the late nineteenth century) gives the castle a very characteristic atmosphere. Depending on the path you choose, we will discover together the medieval interiors with the private rooms and the representative rooms of the emperor or we will visit the sacred rooms and the evocative and unique Chapel of the Holy Cross, dedicated to the Passion of Christ.
Inside the chapel we also find 137 panels with busts of saints, martyrs and angels. Emperor Charles IV personally commissioned most of these works, entrusted to the famous Master Theodoric, the first Bohemian artist whose existence and work is confirmed by documents.
